What is Sound Massage?
Sound Massage comes to us from Germany, where it is a trusted healing modality. It is fairly new in the United States. Sound and vibration come together in a beautiful synchronicity to harmonize body, mind and spirit. Therapeutic metal bowls are placed directly on the body and gently tapped. The resulting vibration travels through the body in concentric ripples, much like dropping a pebble in quiet water. Along with vibration, the bowls produce an overlay of beautiful tones. Listening to the rich tones and overtones allows the mind to become quiet. This combination of sound and vibration is Sound Massage. All of the cells in the body receive a pleasant massage, which in turn encourages the body to release blockages, stress and tension.
Therapeutic metal bowls are hand hammered in the traditional way. Each bowl corresponds to a different area in the body. There is a bowl for the thyroid area, one for the heart and lungs, a bowl for all of the organs in the abdomen, and a bowl for the joints, such as the hands and feet.
Sound massage takes place in a low-lit, quiet massage room; four therapeutic bowls are used at varying times. The bowls are placed directly on the clothed body and gently tapped with a soft mallet. Each session lasts one hour. Appointments are scheduled to allow time for questions without feeling hurried to leave.
There are abundant studies revealing the impact of negative stress on the human system. Sound massage is a holistic model that allows one to overcome detrimental effects of stress. Some of the benefits include:

My journey in the healing realm has evolved over the past thirty years. I have been immersed in traditional healing as an RN, Certified Nurse-Midwife, and Nurse Educator. During that time, I also practiced complimentary and alternative medicine, including Therapeutic Touch and Reiki. I have certification as a Usui Reiki Master, and offer both Reiki and Sound Massage.
While on a yoga retreat in Spain, I was introduced to Peter Hess therapeutic/singing bowls. This was an awakening, an experience I never forgot! Within a year, a friend called and said there was a Peter Hess training in Wisconsin: I quickly signed up! What began as an inquisitive moment in Spain turned into an undeniable passion. I have since taken multiple trainings under the supervision of Gina Armstrong in Manitowoc. In 2016, I became certified as a Peter Hess Sound Massage practitioner. This form of energy work resonates with me on several levels. Sound massage utilizes singing bowls, which are hand hammered to produce a therapeutic instrument. They are made in the traditional way, and correspond to different organs in the body. They are beautiful to look at, soothing to hear, are rich in overtones, and vibrate gently to enhance healing and relaxation.
In addition to being passionate about Sound Massage, I am also a coffee lover, an avid quilter, and a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher. Restorative yoga and singing bowls are divine together. Call or send a message if you want to try singing bowls with your yoga class.
